Read Jonah 1
I had a conversation with a friend a while back. We were speaking about a couple with a bad marriage where both were miserable. The love for each other was gone, I don't know if they were or are believers but both began doing things to hurt the other. When it was suggested to one party to dissolve the marriage, the response was that they'd rather keep eating the poison and hope the other gets sick.
That's a vengeful and hateful attitude and unfortunately the first part of the statement should be scary.
Why would anyone keep eating poison?
This story of Jonah is as much about his problem as it is about Nineveh. Jonah was so filled with animosity toward them that he was willing to die in the sea rather than bring them the good news.
I understand the human nature, someone can hurt us and we initially want to hurt them back.
That's poison and it'll make us sick before it hurts anyone else.
God tells us many times to forgive those who do us wrong. Is there someone in your life that comes to mind?
