January 16, Deuteronomy 18
How much do you need to be satisfied? That's an arbitrary amount, for most people it's just a little more than what they have. It's the accepted norm to work hard for the better house, car, trophy spouse, and it's all temporary. The level of greed in the last week was shown with the 1.6 billion dollar lottery jackpot. Lines stretched outside gas stations onto the sidewalk and people spent record amounts on tickets. There were 3 winning tickets and for those winners, while the idea of wealth may sound attractive it will also attract a darker side and people will flock to them with the intent to get some of their wealth. God says that He will provide all of our needs, I admit there are times when I wonder about that. Here God made provisions for the priests and Levites, they weren't to be farmers but were to spend their lives serving God. Their source of income and sustenance was from the daily offerings, which was really a pretty good amount as everyone constantly sins. Yet even with this system in place we see how some of the priests still gave in to the power and prestige and became greedy. It's not wrong to want nice things but when things are working we don't necessarily need an upgrade.
