February 11, 1 Samuel 4:1-4
Just looking at these first four verses but there's a lot here. Israel again is at war with the Philistines and can't understand why they're losing. To begin with they were supposed to wipe out the philistines when they first came into the land. Now they've been disobedient and worshiping idols and wonder where God is. That seems to be a frequent question today, in the midst of some disaster people will ask where is God in this. Right where He is always, if you don't want Him around at other times why should He come now? They remember times past when the ark was taken to battle they won so they've sent for the ark. But it wasn't the ark that won, it was the presence of God. They don't need the ark, they need a relationship with God. They've got the wrong attitude, the ark has become a good luck charm where it was supposed to represent God with them.
