March 4, 1 Samuel 13:1-7
The first verse in this chapter reads differently depending on the translation, essentially this is Saul's second year as king and he's gathered an army to himself of 30,000 men. Remember that he had 300,000 when he went against the Ammonites in chapter 11. It seems that there is a specific purpose, a garrison of Philistines at Geba. It says that after they defeat Geba that Saul sounds a call and Israel answers. So I wonder how many people responded. The Philistines responded and the people who were just victorious become afraid and run. They still didn't get the fact that it's not them but God who has the power. Hasn't changed, it's not you or me, it's not what we do or don't do, it's Him and His grace.
