April 10, 1 Samuel 24:1-7
Saul is so obsessed with killing David that he takes a small army searching for him. One would think there are more important things for the king to do. Although the scripture doesn’t say this, Jewish tradition states that when Saul came up to the cave there were spider webs across it so he did not expect anyone to be inside. David has an opportunity to eliminate Saul and become king, he could have justified his actions as Saul has so many times before tried to kill David. But there is a difference in a defensive and an offensive act. David valued his relationship with God more, David saw Saul as God’s chosen king and felt that to raise his hand against Saul in such a way was to raise it against God. A good example for all of us, God is sovereign and all authority comes from Him. To rise up in an offensive act against any leader is an offense against God.
