April 16, 1 Samuel 25:32-43

April 16, 1 Samuel 25:32-43

Today we finish this chapter with a few observations. Note that Abigail waits until Nabal sobers up before telling him what she did. One can gleam a lot from this action. Nabal could have been a mean drunk, Abigail understands her husband and knows what buttons to push and when, that can be both good and bad. A lot of really bad stuff gets done to people by close relatives simply because they know what hurts the most. Nabal probably has a bad hangover to boot. Abigail simply adds a little to it. So Nabal gets sick and dies, from the text I’ll wager he had a heart attack and of course there was no-one to perform bypass surgery an Nabal dies. Now the way is clear for David and Abigail to be together. I also wonder what conversations they might have had which weren’t recorded. The end of the chapter lists that David now has three wives. It dosen’t matter who or when it happens, all through history nothing good comes from a man with more than one wife. As I’ve borrowed this quote before, “there’s nothing dumber than a man with an erection.”
