April 2, 1 Samuel 21:1-9
David flat out lies to the priest Ahimelech and he didn't need to. There are no places where a lie is OK. And just because it's in the scripture doesn't mean God condones the action. The bible is primarily a history book, telling the truth about the people and God even when that truth is not attractive. David simply could have said he was on a matter which needed to remain secret, that he had to leave in haste and needed some supplies. I fully understand his desire for caution, one never knows what evil or who is listening which we will see of Doeg in the future.
