May 7, II Samuel 4

May 7, II Samuel 4

People with base intent, seeking primarily personal gain can not see the evil they do in their quest. We see it in life in so many places, one person causes trouble for another because they believe it will ingratiate them to a third. What's frightening is that potential exists in all of us. It sometimes manifests itself when we want someone who has done some heinous act to suffer for it. These men, Baanah and Rechab were called captains of raiding bands, a better description would be bandit captains. They take it upon themselves to remove the sitting king to encourage David's favor. While the nation was suffering under a weak leader their motives were not for the nation but themselves. The cynic in me sees this same attitude in most of our government officials, seeking personal gain and to make a mark on history. David is fully justified in his actions, they confessed to killing a man in his sleep and deserved to die.
