June 14, II Samuel 24:18-25

June 14, II Samuel 24:18-25

David is told to make an altar and an offering to God.  According to Jewish traditions this was on Mount Moriah, where it is believed that Cain and Abel made their offerings and where Abraham prepared to offer Isaac when God provided Himself a lamb. That's an interesting concept, the first place where we have recorded bloodshed and the place where The Gospel, the promise of Christ, the lamb provided by God, is first presented.  A significant passage is verse 24, David says I will not make an offering that cost me nothing, then it really wouldn't be David's offering but Araunah's. Our offerings should cost us something but they should not be ritual or with some expectation of a return.  An offering to God should be a joyful gift for His purpose.
