June 4, II Samuel 19:1-7

June 4, II Samuel 19:1-7

David mourns his son's death far more than was expected, I look at this in contrast to the death of Amnon his son who raped his daughter and there wasn't this much mourning. There was some other connection between David and Absolom that we just don't see. In any case this needed to be tempered, 20,000 other men died whose families will also mourn and as the king he needed to be sympathetic to that. Joab pushed the line between king and advisor or two friends and essentially smacks David up side the head. We all need a friend who is willing to forgo certain protocols and do what's necessary when we act stupid.
