July 19, I Kings 10:14-29

July 19, I Kings 10:14-29

Much or the remainder in this chapter deals with the wealth that Israel enjoyed while Solomon was king.  Gold, silver and precious stones flowed into the country from surrounding nations.  There are two distinct aspects to this, first God promised to Solomon that He would bless Israel as long as they kept His commands, and secondly the reign of Solomon can be a picture of the reign of Christ when He comes to establish His permanent kingdom.  In that day all of the earth will pay tribute and in His kingdom gold and silver will be in abundance.  The last part of this chapter though shows the beginning of the end, God forbade Israel to use horses, their primary use was for warfare and God Himself was to be Israel's greatest weapon in war.  Solomon's gathering of horses and chariots was open disobedience to God.
