July 20, I Kings 11:1-8

July 20, I Kings 11:1-8

The end of Solomon's kingdom and of Israel's prosperity began with Solomon's lusts. How can a man have any form of piety to God with more than one wife? Here is Solomon with 1000. Certainly he did not have relations with all of them and some were perhaps a formality. It was a custom to give princesses as brides in trade and peace agreements. Still we know that Solomon did have intimate relations with several as they turned his heart from God to their own idols. One may wonder how it could be possible for a man who once spoke with God to turn to worshiping things. Just as this was possible then it still is possible today, any person could still come to a relationship with God yet be drawn away by the lusts of flesh and turn away.
