This reminds me of Moses throwing a tree in the water to purify it and of Jesus feeding multitudes with just a small proivsion. I think Elisha could be seen as a type of Christ. The first section tells us of a man unknowingly putting a poisionous gourd, (coloquintida) into the stew and Elisha says to put flour to make it good. There was nothing special in the flour just as there was nothing special in the tree Moses used. It was just something to focus their faith on. It's why sometimes when Jesus healed people he touched some, spoke the word to some and made a mud paste for one. Each case needed something different to manifest faith. The second part about placing bread before 100 students. He had 20 loaves yet all ate and had left over. Not quite the same as feeding the 4000 but the same idea.
