October 7, II Kings 16 Ahaz, a very bad king

Posting this early as I may not have power or internet connection Friday morning.

This chapter details some of the truly bad things Ahaz did.  Verse 3 is very specific, he actually sacrificed his son to an idol.  He took the precious metal items from the temple to purchase peace from a kingdom who God told Israel not to form alliances with. And he had an ornate altar built to replace the altar of burnt offerings in the temple. The altar in the temple was made according to a specific pattern given to Moses by God.  This altar had images and idols engraved on it.  An altar to God is not supposed to have anything engraved. For 16 years he ruled and perhaps for him as the king didn't suffer but the nation certainly did.  His war with Tiglath-pileser caused the deaths of more than 100,000 and more than 200,000 were taken as slaves. Many times a person's sin may not effect themselves but sin always has a consequence.

Today's workout, I suspect will be storm cleanup.
