November 1, Luke 1:39-80 John the baptist's real name

There's actually a lot of information in this section but for most Christians it should be familiar. Nonetheless please do read it today.  It's the naming of John that I find intriguing. Today parents come up with names using a wide variety of methods, in most cases there's really no meaning to the name. So many of the names in scripture are significant to the person. So in the naming of John we should take note as the angel told Zechariah what to name him. I wonder if Zechariah somehow communicated to Elizabeth that the angel told him what to name the child? Or perhaps the Holy Spirit lead her to such. The name John would not be the actual Hebrew name but a Greek or Latin translation, the actual name was more likely Yehochanan, a contraction of Yehovah chanan, or to translate in english, the grace of Jehovah. This is essentially what John preached, a baptism of repentance to recieve the grace of God. It was John who first recognized Jesus as the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
