In this first section we see two incidents where the religious leaders tried to trap Jesus. The first being picking grain in the field, there was nothing prohibited in that, in fact the Mosaic law allowed for people to pick what grew near the roads and the corners of the fields. No it was the tradition of doing no work. The same idea comes up as Jesus heals a man, which I find it ludicrous that they were angry for someone being healed. They've become so caught up in the tradition and in doing things in a certain manner. We still do that, ever hear someone say we've always done it that way? Then there's also the potential financial impact. If things change in the temple the priests may not make as much money.
