In this story of the crooked manager it seems that Jesus praises him for his actions. But what He's actually doing is praising him not for what he did but how. He used the things at his disposal to secure for himself a future, corrupt as it may have been still it showed wisdom. We too should use wisdom, not in the same way or manner but use what is available to do what's needed for our future. A future not based on material gains but on what's righteous. It also teaches us to be wary in the world because there is no shortage of crooked stewards.
