January 12, Ezra 2, Lots of names, what does it all mean?

For most people the family genealogy isn't very important except for some personal curiosity. I note that today there is more interest than there has been for quite some time. But to the Jew the family line was very important. The land and duties were divided by tribes and one needed to identify to what tribe they belonged. Most of this text is names and numbers but this particular issue comes up at verses 61-63. A group of people had no proof to what group they belonged and although they claimed to be Levites, were forbidden to act as priests until an acting priest could make a decision. Also of note that after the 70 years of captivity, 42,000 returned to Israel. We don't know the exact number that were taken but we do know that some chose not to return. In any society people can become comfortable while being totally lost and apart form God and have no realization or desire to change.

Today's workout, 30 minutes any cardio.
