January 22, Ezra 8, Getting started in the right way.
I think this chapter is a bit out of sequence, Ezra remembers what happened when they first journeyed to Jerusalem. Two or three items, depending on how you look at them. Ezra realizes soon after they get started that there are no levites with them. How can one rebuild the temple and hold services with no priests? So that needed to be corrected. The next area deals with protection along the way. From the context I believe the king offered a military escort but Ezra declined. His contention was that God is able to protect them. Yet still in his heart he had doubts. That's another place in the scriptures where we see humanity. It's OK to doubt, it's even OK to tell God you have doubts. Maybe sometimes it's good to have some doubts, it can keep us a little closer to God.
