January 28, Nehemiah 2:9-16 If two people know then it's not a secret
Without all of the details we can only surmise what's been happening. Since Sanballat and Tobiah are unhappy I believe they may have been taking advantage of the Jews. I think the basic lesson here is that when you set out to do something for God there will be resistance. Actually when you set out to change just about anything there is some resistance. The second part, Nehemiah needed to see for himself how bad the damage was and develop a plan. He certainly didn't want to broadcast that plan so he went in secret. That's a wise choice, you can't guarantee a secret if just one other person knows it.
