March 10, Isaiah 6:1-7 I am an unclean man

This first section of Isaiah is probably the one I'm most familiar with. There are at least 5 different items I could find but let's just keep things basic. Isaiah is in the temple and sees a vision of God, I won't debate if it was actually God or just a vision, that's not as important as the rest.  Isaiah is convicted of his sins in the presence of God, I am a man of unclean lips. That will always happen, any man in the presence of God will immediately see his own sins, the conviction and confession part is personal choice. Note that Isaiah says unclean lips, not that I am a sinner, that's one of the roots to our troubles, Jesus said it's what comes out of a man's mouth that defiles him. And so a coal is taken from the altar and touched to Isaiah to cleanse him. As gentiles we may not get all of the implications. Isiah was probably in the Holy place in the temple, the place where the altar of incense was along with the table and lamp stand. From where do the coals for this altar come? They come from the brazen altar where the blood sacrifices are made. So just as the blood spilled on that altar, and mixed into these coals, this coal represents Christ and His shed blood. It is and has been the only way to cleanse anyone from sins
