Verse 10 expresses the attitude of the people, the bricks of that day were simple mud and straw. Baked in the sun but not fired, if they are wet for long periods they will fall apart. Also sycamore trees are poor to build with and certainly cedar was and still is today an exceptional wood. So the attitude is that we're so powerful and smart that if these poor things fail we can make better ourselves. I'm reminded of the old TV show the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him, we can make him better than he was. That proud attitude is a part of the bent nature of man, God calls us stiff necked in many places. Today we do so much the same way, those with experience and wisdom are laughed at and the young and foolish lead us with promises that so many believe. Israel's end was captivity, what will our end be?
