March 2, Isaiah 1, God hates religion

It's so easy to read what Isaiah says to Israel and compare it to nearly any nation today. The people do not know God, the head is sick in that we've lost wisdom for foolishness. Countries and cities lie desolate. But on top of all of that, even in Israel's apostasy and rebellion they went through the motions of worship, just as so many do today. But it wasn't and isn't worship it's religion. They lived the lives that they wanted and brought a sacrifice on Sabbath. With no thought of the meaning or purpose. Why do we attend church each week? And I intentionally call it church and not worship. For a lot of people it's just what we're supposed to do. But God doesn't want rituals, in verse 11 God says "I have had enough". God seeks after people to worship Him, to acknowledge that He is sovereign, to do the will of God. It's in verses 16 and 17, Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. In other words, Love your neighbor. And the promise in return is wonderful beyond measure, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
