I like the description given from verses 9-20, a man (woman) takes things and makes other things and then worships the second thing. I've always wondered how someone could fashion an object and then make it their god. Yet in a different sense there are people who work for objects and make them their gods. Idolatry isn't just worshiping a carved image, it can also be trying to have more, to climb in society or to do better than any one else. The idols in our lives may not be trees that we've cut down but maybe the Better Homes and Gardens lawn that you're so proud of, or the hot rod car that gets pampered. Or maybe some person that we try to emulate. Idolatry comes in many forms and it's all futile. There is and always will be only one God, focus on Him first in all things.
