April 30, Isaiah 47 What goes up must come down
That's actually a physical law, but there is a similarity to what happens in every nation through history which doesn't follow God. Babylon was used by God for His purposes, I don't believe that all of what Babylon did was because of Israel's sins as we know history only from certain perspectives. But this I do know, the greatest nations through history all fell into idolatry and eventually lost their power. The beginning of this chapter presents a contrast of a crowned princess being reduced to grinding flour. What's also interesting is that through history, as nations begin that downward spiral, the distinction between classes becomes greater. There are the rich and powerful and there are the very poor, it becomes a very short step to be reduced from wealth to poverty. Today, most of the people that I know are just one or two paychecks away from being the very poor.
