A verse in this chapter gets quoted frequently, I think it also comes up in a psalm. How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news. But that's not my focus today. The chapter is a prophecy of God redeeming His people, they've been oppressed by the Egyptians and Assyrians in ancient history. Today much of the world is not a friend to Israel. But God has promised salvation. What I am looking at though is the final section. The cost of salvation was a personal sacrifice by God. The body of Jesus was so brutally beaten, beyond human semblance. He felt the pain of each lash and the fists that pummeled Him, He was all man and God at the same time. Every temptation in His life was to prove that He was God, right up to the beatings that he endured. The final test wasn't to take His life but to test His commitment. In the end, after enduring more pain than any mere man could, He gave up His life and in that proved that He is indeed God.
