Much of what's in the bible is history and I think that a large part of our social problems is that we've forgotten history. I think Jude is writing to a group that stumbled away from the faith, possibly because of false teachers. Jude cites specific figures or events in the Jewish history, Moses, Egypt, Balaam, and Korah all point to specifics and events. Moses and Egypt would be positive from obedience where Balaam and Korah were disobedient times and have a negative effect. I think that's a main reason for the entire bible, the characters are, with only 1 exception, flawed. Their actions and consequences are recorded so that we can learn and perhaps not make the same mistakes. But we still do.
