There is a lot to learn from the things which happened then. First off the fault lies with Adam who stood by and did nothing. Lesson for us through the ages, to stand by and do nothing is wrong. There is a scripture in James, he who knows to do good and does it not, to him it is sin. We typically call the fruit the apple, no-one knows what it was. It may have actually been an apple tree, maybe it wasn't actually the fruit but the action of picking fruit from THAT tree. It's really not important, what this does show is that we don't commit sins by mistake, and we are only accountable for what we know. God told them specifically, don't eat this fruit. It's said that this was the tree of knowledge of good and evil but I contend that they already had an understanding, that right from the beginning God created man with a conscious. Eve knew that God had said not to eat this and that it was wrong, after they ate the fruit, for the first time they felt guilty and ashamed and tried to hide. Interesting how shame and guilt today produce similar responses.
