I suppose it depends on where you place he emphasis in this statement. Could it be teach us to be praying people? Or are they looking for a formula, teach us like John's disciples. Did John's disciples show a life of prayer or was there a perception that they prayed with some power? Jesus does give an example but it's not a model of power, it's simply an encouragement to pray. Remember that all things come from God who is holy, and concern our selves with just today. There is no great formula for prayer, you can't mess up speaking to God. The most powerful prayer recorded is Peter as he walked on the water and began to sink, Lord save me!
