August 6, Genesis 10, Lots of names
There are a lot of names of people and places and unless one has an atlas and history of these names, they won't make much sense. Essentially the three sons of Noah populated the Middle East (Shem), Africa (Ham), and Europe and North Asia (Japeth). It would be nearly impossible for someone to trace a family line back that far though. From all of these names only one is singled out specifically. Nimrod was a mighty hunter before the lord. This actually isn't a positive thing. We don't have a lot in scripture about Nimrod but secular history can show us a bit more. He was a powerful evil dictator, some believe he was also known as Gilgamesh. He was arrogant, ruthless and morally depraved, and proclaimed that he was 2/3 god and 1/3 man. I think this is significant as he is only two generations descended from Noah. How quickly man can descend back to the depth of depravity.
